Studio Policy

Welcome to Park Piano Studio! Thank you for choosing Park Piano Studio for your musical journey. As a boutique piano studio, we prioritize quality over quantity, deliberately limiting enrollment to a select group of students where meaningful impact can be made.

To enroll in piano lessons with Dr. Park, this studio policy must be read, signed, and returned.

Lesson Expectations

  • Lessons are held once a week for one hour. (I do not offer anything shorter than an hour lesson.)

  • Lessons are customized to each student’s age, ability, and goals, encompassing music theory, technique, sight-reading, repertoire, and pieces for enjoyment.

Student Expectations

  • Arrive on time with all necessary music books and materials.

  • Keep fingernails clipped short.

  • Make piano practice and lessons a priority over other extracurricular activities.

  • Complete weekly assignments and maintain a daily practice log.

  • There is a minimum practice requirement of 5 hours weekly.

  • Approach practice with a problem-solving mindset to build effective habits.

  • Consistently participate in studio activities, including recitals and other events.

Parent Expectations

  • Maintain open communication with the teacher about the student’s progress and notify Dr. Park of any factors affecting lessons or practice.

  • Support consistent practice by creating a focused and quiet environment free from distractions.

  • Arrive promptly for lessons and pick up students on time. Arriving over 5 minutes early is discouraged, and late arrivals cannot be extended.

  • Notify Dr. Park of missed lessons in advance. With at least 24 hours' notice, make-up lessons or credits may be offered at Dr. Park’s discretion. Frequent unexcused absences may result in dismissal from the studio.

  • Maintain the home piano in good condition, including regular tuning.

  • Provide encouragement during challenges and help students develop the discipline to persevere

Studio Rules

  • Remove shoes, wear socks, and wash hands before lessons.

  • Do not attend lessons if unwell, especially if experiencing fever, diarrhea, or vomiting within 24 hours. Opt for a remote lesson or reschedule in such cases.

  • Remain in designated areas of the studio (front room or piano room).

  • For safety, students should not leave the house after lessons unless accompanied by a parent.

Studio Calendar

The studio follows the Wake County School District Traditional Calendar. Vacation, holidays, and teacher workdays are non-lesson days and are already factored into tuition. During summer, students should take lessons with a substitute teacher while Dr. Park is traveling.

Tuition Policy

  • Monthly tuition is $350 for 60-minute lessons from September- May. The monthly payments remain the same regardless of lesson count per month because it is divided across the year.

  • A yearly $50 registration fee per student covers teacher association dues, piano maintenance, and studio supplies.

  • Additional lessons beyond the standard monthly schedule are available at a per-lesson rate.

  • Payments can be made by check (payable to Jean Park) or Venmo (friends/family option). Financial assistance may be available for families in need.

  • Per-lesson rate for non-registered students is $100/ hr.

Level Testing/ Competition/ Audition Policy

  • I am here to support the musical goals of my students and will gladly assist in preparation for all competitive musical events. However, it is important to remember that success is deeper than awards.

  • Success for me and the student includes:

    • Setting meaningful goals, practicing with dedication to achieve them, and continually aiming higher

    • Sharing talents and embracing constructive feedback to grow as musicians every day

    • Developing skills that support a lifelong passion for music

    • Contributing to the musical community in a positive and inspiring way
